Heidi Holton: Lucky Stones and Lucky Rocks

When the great blues singer Ma Rainey wrote and recorded "Lucky Rock Blues" in 1924, she was NOT singing about New Age Crystals! In hoodoo and conjure practice, the names Lucky Rock and Lucky Stone refer to the otoliths or earbones of fishes -- usually drumfish -- which were carried for good fortune by Native Americans and thence entered the materia magica of African American practitioners. Heidi sings the song, provides the ingredients, and guides you through making your Lucky Rock mojo according to instructions collected by the folklorist Harry Hyatt in the 1930s.

    catherine yronwode: Astrology for Rootworkers

Astrology is a predictive system that helps people make effective plans in matters of business, location, love affairs, marriage, friends, enemies, health, finances, legacies, domestic life, and partnerships. In its most complex forms, it requires a knowledge of astronomical mathematics, but do not fear -- astrology with no math is possible -- and Catherine Yronwode will show you how it is done. In this workshop on ancient, rural star-lore, she will teach you how to work with and harness the power of the Sun, Moon, Planets, and Signs, and how to adapt your work to the ever-changing “astrological weather” of planetary Transits, Eclipses, and Retrogrades. You will learn practical conjure with the Sun and Moon from African-American root doctors of the 20th century, transcribed in their own words. Included also is a revised and restored text from 1920 by Professor A.F. Seward, known in his day as "The World'd Foremost Astrologer," that tells you how to schedule planting, harvesting, grafting, and surgical operations according to the phases and signs of the Moon. If you have been put off of astrology because it somehow seemed “too complicated,” this workshop and its accompanying book will ease you into a full comprehension of Eternal Cosmic Knowledge that you can use on a daily basis!

Jon Saint Germain: An Artist Among the Spirits: The Extraordinary Life of Reverend Adele Clemens

Jon Saint Germain brings us the remarkable life of Adele Clemens, an Anglo-American woman who founded Divine Harmony Spiritual Church in Harlem, New York, in the mid-1930s. A prolific speaker who presented lectures on metaphysical topics during well-attended evangelical tours across the country, she was, despite her unlikely heritage, a pioneer in the Spiritual Church Movement, which was historically based in the African American community. Her methods of conducting candlelight prayer services, documented and published by Mikhail Strabo in the 1940s, are still used today by Spiritual Church Pastors and Ministers across America.
